Panel discussion: "Into the Unknown: Science and Society in our Future."
The Vienna BioCenter PhD Symposium invites you to a riveting panel discussion set to take place on the opening night of this year’s symposium!
When: 18:00, 6th November 2024
Where: IMP Lecture Hall
The event promises to be a captivating exploration of how new discoveries in biology and emerging technologies are reshaping our world, alongside the ethical considerations that accompany such advancements.
We have assembled a panel of four engaging and passionate experts to share their perspectives and lead this thought-provoking discussion:
Sophie Juliane Veigl - Philosophy of Science/Feminist Epistemology (University of Vienna)
Arianna Ferrari - Technology/Ethics/Foresight of New Technologies (Austrian Institute of Technology)
Bernhard Knapp - AI Engineering (FH Technikum Wien)
Jörg Menche - Network Medicine (Ludwig Boltzmann Institute, Max Perutz Labs)
In the spirit of this year’s symposium theme, we would like to host a philosophical discussion to explore the “Unknown” of our future society in regards to a deeper understanding of the natural world and major advancements in technologies that could reshape our society as we know it. Naturally, this means the discussion may tread through a range of subjects including synthetic biology, personalised medicine, artificial intelligence and the ethical implications behind such technological advances.
The duration of the panel will be roughly an hour. (40 minutes discussion + 20 minutes open Q&A).
We hope to see you all there on the opening night!
